Fall down seven times, stand up eight.

Literally speaking, what's with the numbers SEVEN and EIGHT that they have to put up a Japanese proverb like that? Though it is clear to be interpreted, why the numbers seven and eight?

According to my research:
Some say that the reason it is 7-8 is that the number 7 七is made up of a verticle bar cutting a horizontal bar, representing defeat. so using a number greater than 7, which naturally is 8, represents that even though you mess up many times, you don't give up and keep trying.
And another source came up with this speculation:
There is also a saying that it was inspired from when babies begin to walk their first steps, first they fall but naturally keep on trying over and over. It is said that it first started as 一転び二起き(1-2)、三転び四起き(3-4)、五転び六起き(5-6) and eventually turned into 七転び八起き(7-8)
Numerous interpretations have come up why the seven and the eight but none of those satisfied my curiosity. To come with another reality interpretation, it simply states that:
No matter how many times you get pulled down, keep fighting to get back up.

I don't know why I'm bothering myself analyzing this proverb. It does not even have a clear connection with my past. I may read or heard it before but that's just it, just a plain proverb for me...until, yesterday. That same proverb kept popping out of nowhere wherever I go.

My day started like these:

  • Woke up and open my computer. The first appearance of the proverb was seen as a status of my friend on Facebook.
  • Opened my Twitter. It was tweeted by two of my friends who are not related with one another. Retweeted thrice by three different persons.
  • Went to St. Jude Church, overheard two medical students from San Beda College talking about defeat or something and mentioned the same proverb.
  • Was random blog reading and it was mentioned from her latest blog post.

All in one day. Pure coincidental or just sheer luck, I don't know. But it crept on my mind. It stayed there for hours. Fall down seven times, stand up eight.  Why? What sense or purpose does this proverb have in my life now?

See me struggle with these hardships, I'll get back to you all. One after another.

Twilight Coven Philippines: Breaking Dawn Part 1 Block Screening

A BIG, BIG, BIG thanks for Twilight Coven Philippines for hosting another Twilight Saga movie event!

I am a BIG FAN of The Twilight Saga and since then, I've been following websites that caters to the fulfillment and enjoyment of, who else? The FANS! Luckily, I found this site that is Filipino-made and has Filipino hosts which is good, very good! Ever since Twilight books started piling up on your local bookstores, Twilight Coven Philippines came around as well.

TCP hosted this year's major Twilight Saga event: The Breaking Dawn Part 1 Block Screening! I promised myself that I won't miss this block screening again in my entire life since my sked is almost free! Talk about being a bum, LOL! (Due to school projects, thesis, organization works..I wasn't able to attend ANY TCP's blocked screening events before)

Bought 6 tickets for me and my friends! Plus it comes with a raffle ticket!
TCP's bloggers "Clair de Lune" and "Minami" (Hopefully, I got their names right!)
Raffle winners!
So I don't want to be spoiling your movie love with Breaking Dawn so I won't be posting any reviews how the movie went. BUT even if you're not a fan, or maybe you're just pulled by your girlfriends to see this or plainly because you wanted to see what fans are raving about, you'll definitely LIKE, or LOVE this movie adaptation! I could say that this has to be the BEST of all Twilight Saga movies because it pretty much stayed with how the book went. I give this movie 5 out 5 stars! (Of course, it's perfect because I am a big fan. I know, biased! LOL)

Bella Swan! Er, pardon..that's just me. LOL
with friends Macy and Vince to join me in my Edward-Bella-Jacob love!

A trip to ETON International School

Most of us experienced the "traditional" set-up of schooling. The second home we usually refer to becomes monotonous and gets boring at the same time, unless there will be cool teachers and friends who could save our day. Plus, we have to survive that almost half of our lives. Kaloka 'di ba?

On the other side, most parents questioned themselves like: Why am I frustrated with my child's learning pace? Why do I feel impatient to teach my own child? How can my child raise his grades? How can I successfully raise my child?
It is important for parents and teachers to raise questions like these to properly address their concern with the child. And here's where ETON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL comes in the scene.

I was fortunate enough to be invited by Miss Joy Felizardo (Gastronomy by Joy) to be part of this Blogger's event. Yes, my first time to be invited by such and I got giddy about it! Before heading to Eton, I Googled and did some researching. According to their website:
At ETON International Primary School great value is placed upon open communication between Home and School.  This openness of communication is the foundation of a partnership based on the mutual understanding, mutual respect and continued dialogue.
Upon arrival, I was welcomed by grade schoolers and was ushered to the main lobby and was happily welcomed by Miss Jacqueline Marzan-Tolentino, the founder and president of Eton International School. We were also presented with a simple dance presentation by the kids of Eton =)
We then proceeded to the classrooms starting with the Grade School classes.

Frog dissection. Very Biology!

Notice the teacher to students ratio? Yep, that's like 1:10 kids per class! Talk about being focused.

The last part of the event was for us, bloggers, to take an Evaluation test and to see whether we are Global or Analytic type of persons. This test can help teachers, also parents and guardians, to know more about the personality of their children. This tool can help improve how we could help them grow successfully and how they can enjoy schooling through fun learning, helpful mentors and loving families. And that is what Eton International School is proud of, they have been practicing these modern techniques for seven years now!

Global or Analytical? GLOBAL =)

Beautiful Couple

There's really something about weddings that can make me a total tearjerk. Every weddings I've been with, I found myself teary-eyed for the wonderful couple. Seeing them happy and loving makes me want to say that they're a match made in heaven.

I've seen the video several times before but every time I'm watching it, tears always fell. Not only it is wonderfully created but the couple seemed very much into each other. Beautiful couple indeed.

30 Day Drawing Challenge

YES! I challenge myself to this :)
Starting next week, November 7, 2011, Monday will be the start of this 30 day challenge.
I'll be posting photos from the drawings I created.
Hopefully after 30 days, something good will happen..or somewhere in between those 30 days!

*** UPDATE ***

DAY 1 - Me. Of course I'm not artsy enough so IT IS crappy enough. Thanks for the mockery, appreciated much. OK, as you can see, the eyes look dislocated though. LOL IT LOOKED LIKE AN ALIEN!!! HAHAHAHA. I was trying to make it look chinky unfortunately, that. So much for my Chinese eyes. Then the lips, uhm. Yeah, slightly tilted to the left. Or right. Whatever. I guess it's pretty much like me. LOL

DAY 2 - Cats. I LOVE CATS!! I simply adore those pesky creatures! Annoying they may be, I still love them :)))
DAY 3 - Fastfood Finds. YES. I am a big fan of fastfoods. I may be  frequenting high-end restaurants but still, nothing beats the flour-infested, MSG powdered, reheated-from-the-freezer foodies!!! From pizzas, burgers, milkshakes, chickens..if its from fastfood, gotta have them on my stomach, FAST!
